Entity Record Search
How Entity Record Search checks a entity lookup
Quick answer. An entity lookup pulls the state’s row for a company: type, file number, status, and formation date. It is not a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) search and it is not a background check. Inactive and dissolved entities remain in the index so you can see that they once existed.
The entity record is the state’s row, not a credit file
Entity types are not labels you can swap. A corporation, an LLC, a limited partnership, a nonprofit, and a business trust can share a search box and still have different report rules. The type on the detail page tells you which statute the office applied. An “entity lookup” that ignores type will misread a nonprofit’s report cycle as if it were a for-profit LLC.
The entity number, charter number, or document number is the key once you have it. Name searches collide. Number searches do not, as long as you keep the prefix letters. Write the number down before you leave the page.
